In Attribution filters can be used to track specific results from a campaign. 

Users can create filters by clicking the "+Filter" option on their dashboard. 

You are then welcome to create filters based on any of the following criteria:

1. URL Parameters 

2. The Refereeing domain 

3. The Path 

4. Organically 

5. Advanced

When creating filters it is extremely important to be aware of the dashboard hierarchy. This is important because every visit can fall into only one filter and there are rules to how this is selected. 

Dashboard Hierarchy: 

When it comes to visitors and filters, each visit can only live in one filter. If there are multiple URL parameters associated with a a visitor's link specific rules will apply to judge which filter will get credit for that visit. 

Visits are first grouped in the order in which the filters appear. For example, if a visitor arrives from the following link: facebook.com/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=summer&utm_medium=social, we can see three parameters are active here

1. utm_source=facebook

2. utm_campaign=summer

3. utm_medium=social

That being said, the "utm_medium=social" filter will get all the credit for this visit because it is at the top of your filter's list. This is the filter hierarchy, the filter at the top of your list will get all the credit for that visit if its parameter exists in the link. 

It is important to note that you can drag and drop your filters to adjust this list. This will then adjust the corresponding hierarchy of where visits are attributed. 

**Important** The only time this rule changes is when a 'fbaid' or 'gclid' parameter is present. These parameters trump the hierarchy because we can guarantee their truth with auto-tagging, you can see a bit more about this in our docs here. See the example below. 

Here 'Filter C' will get all credit for this visit because the link includes a "fbaid" parameter which overrules the typical order hierarchy. The same would be true for a 'gclid' parameter. If both a 'fbaid' & 'gclid' parameter appear in the link Attribution will give credit to the 'gclid' or 'fbaid' higher in the filter list.
